Does the check valve and ball valve have to be vertical or can it be horizatal?

Check valves need to be vertical, ball valves can be in any position.

I think you can put the check valves horizontally on a swing valve if you need to, I put my swing check valve horizontally, the manufacture stated make sure the swing hinge is on top, and I know it is working because my check valve is see through plastic and I can see the flapper close when I shut off the return pump.
