| Hi All: After reading various reviews on both of these cameras, I am rethinking making a purchase. I am now leaning towards the Nikon D300 even though it cost more. I don't know a lot about the Nikon. But, I think both of these models are pretty close, apart from the megapixel thing. I think that both are probably winners as both take awfully amazing photos.
The real test is, what accessories do you think you need? Do the additional things you want to buy set one apart from the other?

the 40D has an auto cleaning sensor too..... think the Nikon is more expensive isn't it?

it also has aperture and shutter priority - as do most cameras nowadays.

if you will be using the camera for mostly aquatic shots (wild reef or aquarium alike)... I am nearly certain you will be more pleased with the trueness of color from Canon for this purpose. And you will hear that advice repeated by many folks. Moreover... I see more paid/pro aquatic photogs shooting Canons.

I have to say I was just re-reading my July 2007 Scuba diving mag and looking at the photo contest. 9 were shot with Nikons, 3 with Olympus, and 1 with a Canon. I am a Nikon guy so it caught my attention.
