| Hi Steve: I recently purchased a Kati/Ani unit from a fellow reefer. First off, I found the instruction manual very difficult to follow as it's translated from German. It also seems that it will be difficult to hook it into a regular carbon filter canister because of the differences in the tube sizes. I also can't figure out how to directly attach it to the tap water outlet which is a standard hose type threaded connection. The unit appears to be mainly used for the following: "Desalting Water (partially & fully)", "Purifying Sea Water", "Softening Water", & "pH Buffering". I really don't see the application for what we need to do as far as making up water with "0" TDS to be used for water changes? There also appears to be a few different ways to "recharge" both the Kati & Ani canisters. Seems like everyone that has one of these units is using the Muriatic Acid & Lye (Caustic Soda) means of recharging (Kati & Ani respectively). How do you personally utilize this unit? Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks, Steve

I completely agree with you. The directions are abysmal. But, I can tell you that you want to follow "3. KATI and ANI for totally desalting water" to operating the unit and then "2.Regeneration of KATI for partly- and totally desalting water" as well as "3. Regeneration of ANI to totally desalt water" to recharge the units.

| OOPS I forgot? Should I run both the Kati & Ani units together when filtgering tap water to be used for water changes? What would be the reason/application of using just one or the other?? Thanks again, Steve

| I don't know why people would use one or the other instead of both. I just always use both. As to making the connections, I just got vinyl tubing that fit the Kati-Ani, then took that to Home Depot, and found parts that would make it work. I will see if I can take some pictures next time I am over at the greenhouse. Hmm, maybe I will work on coming up with a true English version of the directions.

| Steve knows that I am a new distributor of the Kati Ani products. I obviously agree with the poorly translated directions - especially for regeneration. I will be writing new directions to send out with new units in a couple weeks. I will e-mail you a complimentary copy. Bruce

| Hi Steve You asked about hooking up to a carbon canister filter. When I got my Kati/Ani I removed the RO membrane canister from my RO system. I now filter tap water through the mechanical and carbon modules of the RO system into a 25 litre container with a tap. This container is situated above the kati/ani and linked to the kati/ani by means of a number of improvised plastic irrigation fittings of appropriate size, which feed the Kati/Ani unit by gravity alone. I have a tendency to turn water filters on and then forget about them, and have flooded various parts of my house over the years, so limiting myself to a 25 liter container is an important feature for me! I then simply feed the output of the kati/ani into another 25 liter container. I find gravity feed provides enough pressure without the danger of fittings popping loose and causing flooding. Hope this helps. James

Thanks James! Very helpful info........ Thanks Bruce! I am looking forward to those "understandable" instructions! BTW, if you could include some aspects on the "regeneration" process that would be appreciated. Also, how does one know when the Ani unit needs recharging since there is no color change in that unit?? Steve

CTReefer (7/20/2007) how does one know when the Ani unit needs recharging since there is no color change in that unit??When the Kati unit changes color and/or the TDS start to rise, I recharge both the Kati and Ani portions. I will be recharging tomorrow and intend to take pictures of the process.
