Came home last nite to find my puffer halfway sucked into my standpipe...not sure how the little guy made it over there. I was able to fish him out with a net, but now his right side where he was being sucked in has a few layers of flesh removed and scarred about 1 inch in length. I set up a hospital tank for him and he's still swimming, abeit slowly and gingerly. It's been 18 hours and his condition is currently stable.

1) Would there be any chance of him getting an infection?
2) is there anything I could do, or any product I could add to help the healing process?

Thanks in advance!

Puffers are notorious for getting inadvertently getting injured by powerheads, etc.  I recommend 'sectioning' off powerheads, standpipes, etc with lighting screen.  Sponges are often used but unfortunately puffers often bite/ingest these and this can lead to intestinal obstruction.

There is a 50/50 chance of infection - watch closely.  Make sure to have antibiotics 'on hand' in case an infection develops.

Make sure the water is kept pristine.

I would recommend adding vitamins and beta glucan to the food.  These will help with the healing process and will help boost the immune system.
