The 'Big Bitch Skimmer by Turbo' has now replaced the Reef Octopus FDNW-400 ...

One day of skimming ...

3-Days of skim muck scraped out of the neck ...

The dual beckett recirc is driven by a Hagen Laguna PowerJet 16000 and the feed is a Hagen 902 powerhead.

I'm astounded by the performance of this baby and the results achieved in cleaning up the display tank are incredible when the fish load is considered ... 5 x Tangs / Surgeon / Wrasse over 6" plus another 6 odds and sods 2" - 5" in length.

Now all in need to do is get rid of the horrible Bryopsis sp ... 'been heavily dosing with Kent Tech-M but a tank of this size sucks up an awful amount of concentrate. Also using Magflake to beef up the Mg concentration to 1500 ppm. Progress has been slow but there are signs of retreat of the Bryopsis -- all other nuisance algae have long since disappeared.

Very nice skimmmer...that thing is huge.

When I was raising the Mg levels in my 220 gallon tank it took quite a bit of Kent's Tech M on a lightly stocked tank.  A fully stocked tank I would imagine would take quite a bit more.  Hopefully it works as well for you as it did for me.

Long time! The bryopsis is now history ... except for a couple of fronds that the rabbitfish and foxface chew on.

All of the sps was wiped out by the bryopsis and I have lost 2 of my 4 clams through the stress of the treatment process.

However, the restocking has commenced from frags ... I prefer to grow my stock in ... and I thought I'd share a little video of the reconstruction progress.

But first, here's the incredible sps growth that the dosplay is experiencing; check out those blue tips!

Ok, vid time

Glad to hear you won the battle with the bryopsis.  Cool video, the tank looks very healthy.

Time for an update. The bommie on the right side of the tank has been rebuilt and the sinularia that had grown to a monster size has been removed. Currently dosing vodka at 2ml per day ... still trying to whack the bryopsis after it made a triumphant return to mess with my head.

I like to grow my corals in from frags hence the number of 'small' sps.

Very nice...the tank is progressing well.  I agree, all of my SPS are frags and tiny right now.  I can't wait for them to grow in.  I don't plan on fragging any of them for at least a year.

Now that Anthony Calfo is back, I feel kinda rejuvenated Anybody else feel the vibe?

Some quick updates ... the B1gB1tch dual recirculating beckett skimmer is being replaced with this ATB Deluxe Cone.

The beckett was ever so good but I'm a bit of a skimmerb!tch, and its an energy thing ... 2/3 less power required.

Thought I might just show some of the phenomenal growth of sps ... it's A. microphthalma

Look at the big tabletop acro in the background, it was hardly visible in December 2008.

Here's some more recent tank shots ...
