The main reason i wanted a porcupine puffer was because of its personality. Now that i've learned that this fish can get to be 12 in long i'm starting to have doubts, so i started looking for an alternative. I came across a valentini puffer and read that it only gets to be 5 in but i'm sure if it has such a colorful personality as the porcupine puffer. Can anyone tell me from experience if this little puffer has the same bold personality as the porcupine puffer. Also if i were to get the small guy would i be able to have two in a 100 gallon tank.

Hi Karol,

I moved this post to Kelly's forum as she is our resident puffer expert and should be able to give you all the information (and probably more) than you will need about puffers.

I agree that a diodon holocanthus does have a great personality - unfortunately most of the canthigaster species do not have the same lovable personalities and often keeping two of the same species in the same tank is not successful as they are very territorial and are often fin nippers.

What other fish were you considering for this 100 gallon?
