The new Euro-Reef skimmer finally arrived at the factory where my tank is being built. Now they can finally start on all of the plumbing that needs to be done under the tank. There are going to be two filtration loops, each consisting of lifeguard's mechanical, chemical, and UV filters, and a chiller.. There is also a closed loop system.

Here's a picture of the skimmer sitting below the tank.

Here is a diagram of what the final layout should look like.

Starting from the left side, sand filters, phos ban reactor & pump, next is the sump/refugium, 2 more pumps and the skimmer, next 2 more pumps with the calcium reactor located in front of them, next are the 2 sets of lifeguard's mechanical, chemical, and UV filters, and the 2 chillers are sitting on the right side of the diagram.

Looks like one big puzzle to me, but I think that it will work. (I hope!)

Nice setup - just a quick question- why are you going to use sand filters?

How much live rock are you going to have in the system?

This is going to be a predominantly reef tank with some fish - correct?

I've had very good luck running sand filters on my other systems so I decided to use them again. I am planning on starting with 650 lbs of Marshall and Tonga live rock.

My plans are for an SPS reef with fish. I've not had good luck with SPS in my other tanks so I am going to try and get this tank set up right for them. I met a local reefer who has an outstanding SPS tank who has agreed to supply me with frags from his tank and help me get things up and running.

what do you mean by good luck with your sand filters?

sand filters are good at nitrification, that is reducing ammonia to nitrate but does nothing for denitrification, the conversion of nitrate to nitrogen gas which is offgassed. they can lead to a build up of nitrate in your tank. not good for SPS corals. what have your nitrate levels been in your other tanks?

Well, I am still awaiting delivery of the new tank. One problem we ran into was the skimmer that was sent to me was the older model of the Euro-Reef RC 500 which only came with 2 GenX pumps, The newest version has 3 Eheim. We weren't able to get this issue resolved so had to buy a different skimmer, an H&S model, rated up to 1000 gallons. Here are a couple of pictures after it arrived at the factory.

WOW..that is a monster skimmer.  I have heard good things about the H&S skimmers, I think you will be very happy with it.

The new calcium reactor arrived and am amazed at the size of the unit. There is a five gallon bucket sitting next to the reactor to give it a little perspective. Now how to get it dialed in.

You are a total pimp with that setup! At this time I can only aspire to that level of pimpness.

Here are a few pictures of the tank and stand as it nears completion at the factory. It is supposed to be delivered this weekend.
