| I have an Acanthurus achilles in my 250 gallons tank. He is there for 3 months following a quarantine period of more than 8 weeks. Everything was great and the fish had no problems in any area (no parasites, ick, eating etc). Some days ago I noticed in his one eye something like an air bubble then I was out of the city for a couple days and now his eye is cloudy and looks really bad Apart from that he is still doing great, eating as usual, swimming etc Is there something I can do to help now? He will loose his eye or there may be more problems because of this ? Thanks for your reply...

| Manogr, Sorry to hear of your tang's eye problems. Unilateral problems are often trauma or injury related. Being a relatively new fish and a fish that is "high strung by nature", this is probably the cause. I have seen this with a few of my rabbitfish - they spook easily and will dart. I have seen the bubble followed by cloudiness. I have treated in the past with antibiotics for secondary bacterial infections and the fish has still lost the affected eye. Others have spontaneously healed....depends on the severity of the injury and the immune system. My "one-eyed" rabbits are happy and can navigate/eat well. Some have been "one-eyed" for several years now. My advice to you/your tang - keep the water conditions pristine. Enrich the food with vitamins and beta glucan to boost the immune system and healing process. Since the tang is in a large system and doing well - I would not stress the fish by doing daily antibiotic baths. You may consider feeding an antibiotic laced food in case there is a secondary bacterial infection. Make sure no other fish starts to pick on the affected eye. Can you post a picture of the eye in question? Please keep us updated. Best of luck.

| Dear Kelly, Thanks for your quick reply. First of all you are spot on regarding the nature of the fish. He is what we can descibe "nervous and curious" as he is not affraid or dart but he swim all the time really fast trying to control the whole tank! I am sure that this is not aggressiveness from other fishes (as I dont really see any troubles in my tank yet) but it should be an injury from a rock or even my diadema urchin! Who knows? I am in work now and my wife called telling me that the cloudiness is almost completely gone but the bubble is still visible!! From what I read above there are cases of healing so I hope. I use garlic extract and kent zoe vitamin in the food and I will try the beta glucan also. If he loose his eye it will be obvious or I will not be able to understand it from appearance? I don't care for the appearance of the fish for the shake of it, I will care for my fish no matter what, but I ask in order to know how I will understand what will happen... Thanks!! We all count on you for our fish wellness

We all count on you for our fish wellness As far as eye loss or loss of function - one will note either the lense missing, no eye movement, or a "shriveled" eye or an empty socket. Best of luck.
