I recently purchased a Korallin C-1502 Calcium Reactor with Eheim1048. It has not arrived yet from Marine Depot, so I havent had the chance to really figure it out. I understand the way a calcium reactor works, but have questions about this particular model. When ordering, the knowledgable tech guy at Marine Depot said that I would need a lifter pump to get water to flow into unit. By reading the product description, and a few reviews it seems as if the Eheim that recirculates also feed water from the system. So do I need the lifter pump?? I wouldn't think so but the gentlemen said he operated the same reactor and needed the extra pump. Feedback from anyone with experience with this product would be greatly appreciated.
Jules: I want you to go in that bag, and find my wallet.
Pumpkin: Which one is it?
Jules: It's the one that says Bad M*%$!&%#@!&%!!

| Although the eheim pump that comes with the unit will pull the water in somewhat, it still is better to have a pump pushing water into the unit. The eheim is really meant to recirculate the water within the unit and mix it with the CO2. HTH,

I am also ordering one today so what size, make, or brand of pump would you recommend as a lifter or feed pump? Also would it be worth investing in a second stage PM chamber?

| Hi narismendi, Welcome to the Marine Depot Forums. Most people will find an AquaLifter pump will work well for their reactors. As far as a second chamber, the design of the Korallin is suppose to help eliminate the need for a second chamber. Generally the second chamber is to help use any excess CO2 and bring the pH back up, but the Korallin units use less CO2 so usually it isn't an issue. Will it hurt to run the second chamber? No, but many find it is not needed.

I use one on my 90 gallon and have more than enough flow without an extra pump. I syphon out of the tank and return to my sump. Make sure the syphon is not too far into the tank so you won't overflow your sump during a power failure. I used the black airline and Dyed (Rit dye) hard plastic air line black to go over the edge of the tank, and the sump, to keep algae from growing in the tubing. You can get perfect bends with the hard airline by packing dry tubing with corn starch, heating it with a hair dryer (do not over heat) and bending it over a board. Use gloves or oven mits on your hands.
90Overflow, wet dry, home made skimmer; self cleaning, w/800 rio. Two return pumps, one off at night. 384W PC. Reverse flow under/over gravel filter. Fish, LR, some corals. Aquarium has over head matching cabinet.

For anyone's benefit that is thinking of buying a Korallin Ca Reactor Kit w/Ca canister and selinoid,
I ordered mine last week from MD and it arrived in perfect shape . It is not hard to set up and the directions were easy to follow. Took the canister down to my local welding supply and they had a like kind to trade for a full canister. $15 for a 5lb tank. I took the recommendation and purchased a lifter pump, PH controller and it works perfectly. I tested my Ca tonight and it was at 480, Kh 12, Ph 8.4 and only after the long weekend. It is a good product well made and does what you expect it to do. Pricey? Yes, but well worth the investment. If you want to get your Ca up and keep it there this is a worthwhile option.=
