Hi Anthony.

Thanks as always for the cutting edge info you post here.  You really are an inspriation to us all.

I've been following your threads on anemone prop and would like to give it a try.  I've searched here and there and whilst I can find posts talking about doing the deed, I can find little info on success stories (or more importantly pics for time periods after the cut is made).

I ask because I think I have a prime candidate here, it is a  carpet  (Gigantea) that I have had for 2 years.  It has grown from 4 inches to over 18 inches.  Survived manglings by a Maxijet and 2 Seios and still continued to grow and show colour.

It currently resides in my greenhouse (it's all your book's fault, thank you so much for that!) so is not a problem with her size, but, if it can be done and I can get two hardy carpets, then I really want to try.

Guess I'm just looking for asome reassurance.  I have the scalpel, goggles, gloves and cutting board.  Just looking for a bit more courage.

Thanks as always.

Matt

no worries Matt... understood.

If your anemone has been in the same place (unmoved) and stress free, well fed and in good water quality for the last 6 months... then this is a no brainer. Very safe indeed.

Take a fisherman's filet knife (needed here for the size of this anemone) and make a single, clean samuri bilateral (symmetrical) split of this bugger. Seperate the halves laterally in the display, but do not remove them or move them higher (brighter light).

Within hours the halves will pinch closed... within days you will be quite reassured... within weeks/months (if well fed)  you can start to think about making cuts again

Please do post pics, my friend.

Thanks Anthony.

I'm going to hold off making the cut until the weekend after 11 September.  I have a hectic schedule up until then and want to make sure I am around to document the event no matter what happens.  Also gives me time to note all params and get the kit lined up and sterilised.

Thanks for the advice and encouragement.  I'm looking foward to trying it.  Hard to believe I was just as nervous fragging my first 'shroom a few years ago.  Now they are all over the place! I hardly need to help them aloing at all.

I'll be sure to post pics here in this forum.

Thanks as always.

heehee... yes, quite the same. Lots of folks were worried about cutting a corallimorpharian in half (especially those over-priced Ricordea sp.), but now folks chop them willy-nilly... and soon they will do anenemones as much too
