| Hi Anthony I have a lovely Sarcophyton that I would like to make cuttings of, but its attached itself pretty well to the live rock structure in the tank. Even the side of the stalk has attached whereever it was touching the rock. I want to know whether I can make small cuttings in the tank? Its a toss up here between toxic fluids from the cut getting into the tank, and disturbing the animal significantly by removal. Ok, typing that last line it just occured to me that I'm going to be cutting pieces off the specimen and thats probably a much worse "disturbance" than being pulled free of attachment points , but I would like your take on this anyway. Cheers James

| Indeed, we want to always avoid cutting or otherwise stressing corals in the display... especially very noxious species like Alcyoniid members, but at times this is unavoidable. You can trim this beast if you like... just hedge your bets by doing a large water change afterwards (and perhaps again a day or two later). Follow suit with a fresh exchange of carbon unless you are using ozone (the best for tempering allelopathic elements, we believe) kindly, Anthony
