Hi Anthony
I have been trying to source a Kati/Ani deionisation system, but shipping costs may prove too high. I seem to recall you referring someone to Spectrapure for their bulk resins? How do they compare to the Kati/ani in terms of resin life (number of recharges before replacement) ?
Thanks
James

I don't have a specific SpectraPure product in mind. Rather... ask for the specs from any mfg for resins you are considering. Have you also asked AquaTechnik directly for a unit or dealer to send to SA for you. Here in the US they are comparable $ retail to inferior RO units. The shipping to SA is not so bad. Do you have a taxation issue?

| Hi Anthony Thanks for your input - after 3 emails to spectrapure went totally unanswered I finally heard from them - they dont ship to SA. The original quote from Kip Tani for the Kati/Ani was rather expensive for shipping , but I think it was for a courier company shipment - he is currently investigating US postal service possibilities which will probably be better. Of course, if I order from him, the unit has crossed the atlantic twice by the time it gets to me, which does push prices up a bit I will contact Aquatechnic directly as you suggest - hope someone there speaks english, my German is very rusty I have enquired about resins from local suppliers, but the moment I tell them what I want to do with it, they get into the whole RO water debate, and then they get all hung up on the "dangerous chemicals" needed for recharge issue. Then when I tell them I spent the first 10 years of my professional life in medical labs working with this stuff daily, they want to build me a DI system and wnat details of volume / run length / pressure etc. Drives you nuts doesnt it ? Just want some resin that I can put into a simple PVC diy cartridge system - everyone overcomplicates things to the nth degree Anyway, thats my rant for the day, will contact aquatechnic as you suggest. Thanks James

| heehee... I think the RO sales folks just might be lower than used car salesmen :p If the best argument they can come up with is "dangerous chemicals" for recharge, then they really are insulting your intelligence. If the chemicals are so bad... why is it again that they can be found (toddler height no less) in the grocery store ilse for cleaning agents (lye for drains) or at the local hardware store (muriatic). Errr... I'm a big boy. I can unclog my drains and clean cement off my tools/trials... and I can recharge a two colum deionizer. All without injuring myself and producing better quality water cheaper than RO ta' boot. For a German contact, let me suggest you contact EU friends of ours on sister message boards/clubs. Check my list of international links in the Fav links sticky (under "discussions"). Use freetranslation.com to pen a simple message in their given language simply asking for help fro a fellow aquarist (and possible English speaker) that can guide you faster to a distributor of the world famous high quality German resins You might als check around the SA message boards for anyone working in waste/water treatment... they have easy access to such resons. Also industrial folks that do electroplating and micrchip work (they run their own water treatment plants with DI water)

| Anthony, I have a Kati & Ani 2 I have used for years, after I recharge it doesn't produce good water for long. I mean the TDS starts to climb after 30 gallons or so, before I could get 400 gallons min. before recharge. Do you know where I could get Aqua technic's replacement resins for a Kati & Ani in the US. Hope to see you at TFP in Centerville Pa. you were one of the best speakers they ever had. I enjoyed your presentation very much hope to see you soon. Pat

Thanks for the kind words my friend re: your resin... its highly unlikely the resin is the problem here. What is your starting TDS? I do see to recall Lancaster region water quality. Oi!

| Anthony My tds is 350 to 400 depending on the time of year, has been this high for years! Recently after I recharge the Kati & Ani the Tds starts to rise after about 30 gallons. In the past I could get 250 to 300 gallons before the Tds would get to 2. I thought maybe my resin was beyond recharge? Do you have any ideas? Thanks again, Pat

| Hi Anthony Thanks for the freetranslation link - really does help. The people at aquatechnic are willing to ship me a kati/ani 2 unit - and including shipping it will cost less than my RO unit! Perhaps I should go for the 5 Cheers

ahhh... excellent to hear, my friend. And yes... FWIW, I used the Kati Ani model 5 for many years quite happily (still have them... nearly ten years old)

Hi James:
Where did you order that unit from anyway? I was on the aquatechnic site (www.aquatechnic.net) but did not find any products related to DI units/resins, etc...?? Anthony is there a US distributor for these products??
Thanks,
Steve
