Hey guys. ? 4 u. I have a clown triggerfish about 4-5 " long housed in a 150g. tank with an 8-9" puffer and they are doing great. I feed them a varied diet including krill, the weird part is that my puffer can literrally "suck" his food in but the clown no matter how small the pieces of krill are his jaw seems to get locked as he's trying to eat. It's pretty comedic watching him try to eat krill  (every other food he does well on) - has anyone else ever experienced this?

PADIDUDE - I moved your thread here to the Health & Wellness forum so that Kelly can help you with this problem.

If you can, please list your water parameters for her along with all tank filtration information you can think of. The more she knows about this system and this clown the better she can help you.

I dont think its a problem of being able to eat food, but one of jaw / mouth design. A clown trigger is designed to take on large crustaceons and removing sessile inverts from surfaces. When it feels the shell of the mysis, it is most likely trying to spit it out in an attempt to use its front teeth in a nipping action.

I agree with Chuck.

I must also add that one should avoid feeding/making freeze dried krill a large component of the fish's diet.  It has been linked/associated with the inability to open the mouth/chew the food. (lockjaw).  Feeding freeze dried krill occasionally as an added food source is fine.  I feed my large collection freeze dried krill soaked in selcon, vitamins, garlic and phytoplankton every 7 to 10 days.

Best of luck.
