LOL, somehow I mistakenly posted this on Eric's forum first, though it was adressed to you.

so anyway.......

Anthony, I thought you might find this interesting.  just over a year ago you gave me advice on my RBTA spawning.  now here it is a year and one week later from the last time this cycle started and it has begun again.

Last time I had a spwning event on 4/25/05, and then another exactly one week later.  then two more over the next 2 months.

this one was today on 5/2/06, exactly one year and one week from the first one.

this leads me to suspect some sort of factor that is triggering the event, ambient light or even just some sort of internal clock.  very bizarre, I walked in the door and it was spawning and I was like, holy moly, again?  at this time of year?

well at least now it's in a larger tank instead of a 20 gallon.  just thought you might find this interesting

it could be... but it may also well be a sign of critical mass reached from your regular feeding/husbandry. That is to say... if you fed more and did larger water changes, they'd almost certainly split faster/more often... or less if you fed less. It may not be seasonal at all.

But very cool of you to share and revisit. Please post pics if you can.

kindly, Anthony

oh no, it's not splitting, it's spawning.

there are several factors that may play into it.  tank temp has been a little higher lately with the warm weather, it was 81 in the tank with lights on today versus the normal 80.  also it was very cloudy today and so far less, almost no ambient light from the windows at all today, and it was in it's weird, yeah now i remember it being puffy like this last time, form all day today, even before lights came on.  lastly I did feed it directly last week for the first time in over a month, so maybe the extra energy helped it to spawn, who knows.  although food never triggered this before.  I have been lax on feeding directly because the clown feeds it so well and it always looks so healthy, happy, never moves around the tank, has been healthy for over 3 years now.

who knows, still if nothing else a weird coincidence

I wish I would have gotten a picture, if it does it again, which I honestly hope it doesn't, then I will definately get a pic.

ah, yes... my apologies. I'm reading/posting too fast

And while feeding is still very influential on planulation events for conditioning the parents... indeed we can say that with reasonable (and albeit somewhat less optimal) feeding, the annual planulation event(s) are seasonal/independent from other influences like we see on splitting (fissionary) events.
