Hello my friend, Happy Easter!
I apologize for the long absence; my personal life has been a bit of a mess, but is getting back on track and looking good.
(Fingers Crossed)
I'm looking to the future and some extensive travel for work; one of the dilemmas is getting a qualified person to care for the tank while I'm away.
This leads me to plan for the most user friendly system possible.
As we have discussed several times; the use of a DI for the evaporating water replacement seems best.
I figure a holding tank with a calcium or Kalk reactor and a float valve in the sump is the safest means; from there I'd only have to worry about someone stopping by and feeding.
My question to you is where and what DI system do you recommend?
TIA,
Ed

Not to hijack the thread, but I have a quick question. Anthony, you are referring to using only the one DI canister and setting aside the membrane, prefilter, and carbon resin correct? And does mineral content of the source matter? If so, what numbers would justify a full RO system?
Thanks

edkruzel (4/16/2006) My question to you is where and what DI system do you recommend?Anthony and I have long been users of the Aquatechnic Kati-Ani deionization units. Kip Tani is the only current US importer that I am aware of.
Steven Pro, yeah that is my real name.

| heya, Ed... always good to hear from you my friend... though sorry to wonder/worry about your delays and challenges. The German brand Steve refersd too is indeed my fav as he states too. I've enjoyed using several units dating back to my discus hatchery in the late 1980's/early 90's They are wonderful in all ways (quality, lifespan, etc) But brand preference aside... do note that not all resins are equal. Not even close. And you will want to chose a unit that has seperated cation and anion exchange resins. This is not only because it will be rechargeable... but also because the (awful IMO) mixed bed chambers (one column) most always have l;ow grade quality resins in them) best of luck and life Anth-

Thanks Anthony,
I spoke to Kip today and decided to purchase the model 2.
I'm away on business beginning Monday the 24th and returning on May 19th; I'll make my purchase when I return, but until then I'll have to supply a butt load of single gallon jugs of drinking water for my daughter to use on this little tank.
I have a detailed list and will prepare tiny ziplock baggies for daily feedings.
Manual replacement for the evaporated water and small daily doses of Aragamilk will be her charge over the three week period.
She had a goldfish once, yes once.
Wish my tank well, it's going to need it.

| if you won't have any other (or enough other) fish friends on call for your daughter/watchers... please feel welcome to give her my phone number as well. I have but one conference to attend to while you are out and will be available by phone most of the time (do give her the home# instead of cell which I usually only have on when travelling) safe travel my friend
