What is the best way to get rid of red slime algea in a FOWLR tank??

What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?

I use Boyd Enterprises,Inc CHEMI-CLEAN. You have to turn off your Protein Skimmer, UV, Ozone, remove charcoal, or charcoal substitutes. I recommend turning off your tank lights at least the first 24 hours, they produce UV too. After 48 hours you have to do a least a 20% water change. You can repeat, but I never had to. I vacuum the dead algae off with my siphon hose. Then restart all the shut down equipment. Did you use Renew by any chance? Had both my out breaks after using Renew, on two different tanks over 6 months apart.

90Overflow, wet dry, home made skimmer; self cleaning, w/800 rio. Two return pumps, one off at night. 384W PC. Reverse flow under/over gravel filter. Fish, LR, some corals. Aquarium has over head matching cabinet.

You only have to do the water change if you are going to treat again. Chemi-clean or red slime remover isnt really the problem solver....it just masks the problem by killing the cyanobacteria. If the nutrients are not removed from the system the cyano will come back, and usually it comes back worse because of the added nutrients from the cyano dying off.

Rose, I think your answer is water changes to get the nutrient levels down.......skimmer would help also. Those 2 little pigs of yours create alot of waste, and are messy eaters.

240g cube in process...pending on funds
