What type of anemone is it? Glad to hear it is doing better.

rose bubble tip. but now i am worried again. last wo days when i turn on the lights i notice the mouth is not closed tight all the way. its open just a very very small amount. but then after a while it will close. yesterday when i got home it was open a good but i think it had just spit something black out cause the crabs were close to it eating the black stuff. so i feed it some mysis shrimp last night to it, which it took and i would even say that its still sticky cause some that i had feed to the fish in the tank floated by and it stuck to it and the anemone pulled that bit in as well.
this worrying on my part might be for nothing but i also noticed it doesnt open very quickly (like normally i turn on the blue lights at 6 and white at 730 before work and it is usally spread out amost 2/3 full. but not yesterday or today) it comes out and fills out about 1/3 its normal size now before i leave. but when i got home yesterday it was open full. bubbles not mouth.
now after typing this its mouth closed all the way. but no black stuff this time

How long have you had it for? I have a bunch of RBTA's in my one tank...probably close to 9 or 10 that have split from 2 original ones (plus I have traded off another 9 or 10).
Once they get use to your lighting schedule they will start opening and closing almost like clockwork. If your lights are controlled by a timer, I would suggest using one.
I rarely feed mine, they will catch some food when I feed the fish...but for the most part I only direct feed a few times a month. Some like to feed more often, but I have found mine do perfectly fine with the occasional direct feed.

well i bought the rbta on aug 23, and for the first week it hid under a rock. then it came out on the back side of my tank, and a day or two later it moved to the front. the foot looked great when i first put it in the tank but since it attached to a rock i could not tell you any more. all my power heads have spounge filters over the intake so i know it did not get hurt while finding a spot. also i have quad t5 lights so more than enough light. and my light are kinda on a timer. but i have to cut on the white lights, and i cut them off when i get home. blue ones go offt at 830 and thats my que to go to bed, lol.
on another note i have not been able to see the mouth since i got home. its about 2/3 open but has bubbles close to the mouth blocking the view, i dont think its wide open but it might be just a little? per your advice i wont try to feed today. my crabs wont be happy cause its almost like they have a death wish cause the will get almost right on top of the amenome and steal the food from it. one even got a pebble and keep sliding it along in front to make the anemone retract so that it could get real close to get the food.

ok back again to thinking every thing is fine and i am just over worring. lol. the RBTA mouth is fully closed, but was open just a small amount this morning but once white lights came on it closed up. now its mouth is fully closed and the anemone is fully open. i havent seen it this open since its was floating aroung looking for a spot to hang out. ( i hope its not going to move again ) if it does stay put how long do you normally wait to add clown fish? i read that they can be more harm than good when an anemone is trying to find a spot where it likes. thanks for the help

Most of the time the mouths on my guys are closed (actually usually can't even see them due to all the tentacles, LOL).
I would give it at least 2-4 weeks before putting a clown in there. Was there a particular type of clown you are looking at getting?

i was thinking about a snowflake ocellaris clownfish. i only have one blue green chromis in the DT, but i have a azural damsel in the refugium. he keep chasing my chromis till finaly one died. its been almost 2 weeks since i put it down there and the chromis that lived still hides most of the day but is getting better are coming out and swimming more in the open. i have a friend thats will take the damsel when his tank cycles. so its not like it will stay down there for ever.
now you said to wait 2-4 weeks before adding the clown, is that for the bio load to adjust? cause when to damsel comes out, wont that be a good time for the clown to go into my display tank? and take the damsel place on the bio load or are you saying wait for the anemone to adjust? ; the anemone has been in my tank for 2 weeks today. and so far no spikes in ammonia or nitrites. and i do weekly 10% + water changes. ( the other chromis died the day before i put the anemone in the tank)
the anemone still seems to be doing good. i feed the chromis some mysis shrimp and i noticed that one floated near the anemone, the anemone caught it and right away pulled it in to eat. also do anemones normaly change colors? when i first got it, the base of the tenteaclees were green about 1/3 of the way up then rest a reddish pink color. now its all that pinkish red color. i first thought that it might be from it not getting any light when it was under the rocks for so many days not getting enought light. ( i have quad t-5s on a 29 gallon tank. two atinic blue and two 10,000 kelven white) but there not much good for things under rocks. lol

Sorry for the delay in replying. I would wait 2-4 weeks to give time for the anemone to settle in. If the clowns decide to host in it, they sometimes can be very rough on the anemones.
Yes anemones can change color somewhat. It can depend on the light and nutrients in the water.

ok thanks for the info. i am going to start looking for the clowns and maybe buy them next weekend. i am going to buy a 5.5 gallon betta like tank to keep the clowns in so that i can watch for any signs of sickness. question though. will it hurt to just go ahead and treat the fish when i first get them to just be on the safe side? plus by holding the clowns for 4 weeks that should have given the anemone plenty of time to settle in. also the anemone seems to be doing great. it is opening up fully and i watch it catch food floating by, then taking it to the mouth which is staying fully closed when the anemone is fully open. i even noticed that some of the green is coming back at the base.
so i know i am still way to new at keeping the anemone, seeing how this is my first. And i dont have my larger tank tank set up yet for saltwater (but i will be working on it soon, first i have to finish my corvette lol) . I have a 90 gallon tank that had ciclids in it till last monday when my wife and i moved them to our 125 corner bow front tank. so for now the tank sets empty and when i master the 29 gal tank i will then start a 90 gal reef tank. But my question is how do you get the anemones to grow and split? i want it to be cloned from its self cause from most of every thing i read it states that a anemone will fight with another anemone but will usally get along with one that split from it. and i have seen ones to dont really split off that just stay connected to another and get real long. to me that would be real cool instead of having a bunch of small ones here and there. Well once again thanks for your time an advice.
