I have an established 150g acrylic tank that has small patches of light scratches in the interior probably from scraping coroline algae. Is there a method of removing these without tearing down the tank? Currently the tank is a fish and live rock saltwater tank.

There are a few kits out there that say they can be used underwater, but I have never tried before:

I to have a large plexi-glass aquarium with the exact problem. Unfortunately I found no safe solution, so I broke the aquarium down and removed the scratches. I first ordered the wet sanding material with a wide range of wet sanding paper. After many days of work, I found the process completely unacceptable. The best product that did the best job for me was two rubbing compounds. Heavy and fine scratch removal. After many hours of work, I bought a car buffer and restored the aquarium in hours. I first tried a high speed grinder and found the speed was so great it melted the plexi. Hope this helps.

I will probably not get this aquarium due to the problems with Coraline.

Unfortunately,My scratches were throughout my aquarium thanks to my helpful daughter. But, If your scratches are high up on aquarium, you might try separating the area with a wide tape, such as duct tape, and proceed carefully. I also would use part of the sticky side of the tape to attach a small tarp.
