Unfortunately PFO is no longer in business...you can find used ballasts, but there is no service (by the manufacturer) on them. Good ballasts though.

I had found that they were out of business, but some people are still selling what they have left. Do you think they would be a better choice then an electronic ballast? (Icecap, Sunlight supply, bluline, etc.)

| They tend to be bulkier than electronic ballasts and will run warmer, but also they tend to give you a higher PAR from the bulbs you use. I like the electonic ballasts because you won't be limited on any type of bulb. There are different types of magnetic ballasts, some will only run single ended bulbs or only run double ended bulbs. With electronic ballasts you won't have to worry about bulb/ballast compatibility, so if future upgrades might happen you won't be limited. Also...you may want to think about the new Lumatek ballast. They have ones that run either 150 or 250 watt bulbs OR one that runs 250 watt or 400 watt bulbs. You were considering going to the 400 watt bulbs and since they will fit in the same fixture as a 250 watt mogul bulb you would have the option to upsize the bulb and not have to buy anything different. Marine Depot should have these new ballasts in stock and on their website very soon.

Those lumatek ballasts sound like a good deal....hmm will have to see if they're really expensive or not but that's a good idea. Thanks

sorry one other question, there is a possobility of an upgrade to a 180 do you think 400w would be too much for this size tank?

I believe they will be around $160. For a 180 the 400 watt will be fine (but it can depend on the dimensions of the tank).

yep i just looked they'll be 159.99, not bad for being able to support either 400w or 250w. The 180 would be regular dimentions
