Are you running carbon or a skimmer in this tank?

Just making sure you weren't running carbon or skimmer as this could affect the levels/effectiveness of the treatment.

Best of luck - please keep us updated!

Hi Kelly,

Sad to say the Naso did not make it.  I am going to assume it is from the way he was captured that caused him to really never start eating right.

I have another question I would like to pick your brain on.  I still have a pair of black and white clowns, juvi emp angel and a cleaner wrasse in the 125 treatment tank.  I have had a lengthy discussion with Seachem and they are guarenteeing me that using Paraguard for a 21 day treatment in my treatment tank will get rid of all parasites in the tank and on the fish.  I am almost at my 21 day period and all fish are looking and eating great.  There has been some disscusion on Reef Central about Seachems claims of this product working as they guarentee me it will....I feel more comfortable using Paraguard then copper for the obvious reasons.  I also really don't like hypo due to the ease of negative water quality.  How confident would you be with Seachems guarentee about my treatment tank being parasite free?  Here is the Paraguard label...

ParaGuard™ is the only fish and filter safe aldehyde based (10% by weight) parasite control product available. Unlike highly toxic and difficult to use formalin based medications, ParaGuard™ contains no formaldehyde or methanol and will not alter pH. ParaGuard™ employs a proprietary, synergistic blend of aldehydes, malachite green, and fish protective polymers that effectively and efficiently eradicates many ectoparasites on fish (e.g. ich, etc.) and external fungal/bacterial/viral lesions (e.g., fin rot). It is particularly useful in hospital and receiving tanks for new fish and whenever new fish are introduced to a community tank. For use in freshwater or marine.

What do you think?????

Hi Kelly,

External parasites and stress can contribute to anorexia and as each progresses, the problem only gets worse - viscious cycle.

There has been some disscusion on Reef Central about Seachems claims of this product working as they guarentee me it will

I have not used paraguard for treatment so I can not comment on this.  Also since we didn't have a skin or gill scraping, there is no way to be assured 100% what the diagnosis was and if this is the correct treatment or if the fish are doing well secondary to not being infected or developing an immunity.

....I feel more comfortable using Paraguard then copper for the obvious reasons.
What are these??

I also really don't like hypo due to the ease of negative water quality.

This is not true if you have an established biological filter and do not use in a tank with substrate or live rock.

How confident would you be with Seachems guarentee about my treatment tank being parasite free?  Here is the Paraguard label...

As stated above....

Well I don't like copper because test kits are so hard to get an accurate reading from.  I really have a hard time telling those blue colors apart.  I lost a good amount of my fish with copper and I thought I was in a safe zone.

Hypo can be tricky because you have to worry about the biological filtration being reduced in the lower salinity.  Not to mention the real low PH that is always present in hypo salinity.  You also have to keep doing regular water changes some even do them daily.

This Paraguard is a broad spectrum treatment that does ich along with s few other things.  Seachem is guarenteeing me I will have success with this product using it for ich.  Going forward it will be my treatment of choice for all new livestock.

Hopefully I will new have to worry about getting ich in my main tank in the future.  BILL
