| Hi Dr Ron, I know that might sound like a dumb question since all my cuke does is sift the sand. But I'm thinking of switching out my sandbed b/c of concerns about excess nutrients in my system. But I'm thinking, if I do, my cuke will have lost its only food source. I have a serpent star and several shrimp that should be ok, I think?

| Hi, Of course, your cuke needs the sand. A well-constructed and maintained sand bed puts no excess nutrients in an aquarium system.
Cheers, Ron
