I wouldn't clamp it shut, it's how the wet/dry chamber fills and empties with air. I thought Eheim provided a little tube for that to avoid any minor spills?

I got it going last night and I think I know what the center line if for... you're right about hooking up some airline. These things are hard to prime and start up. The center line is there for you to suck out the air of the system, whiz-bing-pow it starts up like a gem. I'm assuming I should just clamp off the line but I'll give eheim a call. I may have over read that piece in the manual but I dont think so.

the center tube is the air intake. the unit "breathes" like it has lungs but slowly - that's how you get your purging effect. try hooking up some airline (don't know the exact diameter) and run it long and up to prevent any siphoning effect. if it still fills with water, there may be an internal defect.

i've contacted eheim directly on a couple of issues, and although they are somewhat slow to respond, they will, and with great service.

Hi Johnrx,

Unfortunately I have not had any first hand experience with these filters. I do know the can be a little tricky to get working at first but once they are running they are usually a very low maintenance filter. You will also get a wave action as the water is purged and refills the breather chamber (I think that is what it is called).

I would give Eheim a call (1-866-EHEIM-NA) and they should be able to assist you in getting the filter up and running.

I have aquired one of these canister type ehmeim wet/dry and am looking for someone out there that has some knowledge of it.

There is of course, an inlet and an outlet hose but also there is a small outlet hose in the middle of those. I fired up the pump and it's theres for sure water coming out but slowly, however no tubing was provided for it and I cant understand what its for given there is already an outlet hose.

I was wondering if maybe it feeds up to the top of the inlet hose
