I don't think you can circulate too much water but you can certainly have too high a velocity of that water. As far as adjustment of flow goes I feel it's what one would consider fine tuning their tank. Not only different species but individuals within that species are going to like different flow rates. You can get a general idea of the flow rates that a species requires from various books and/or charts. But again I think it's fine tuning and you need to observe, over time, what works best for your individual specimens. I am constantly changing the velocity and direction of water flow in my tanks as I add individuals or move them around. I know this dosen't answer your original question but sometimes there is not a exact and difinitive answer.

Aquascaping and Water Flow - your thoughts???

Hi Folks -

My 90 mixed reef has been up and running for about a year now. I've been trying to adjust (what I think) has been either too much flow---and/or improper placement of power heads. I know that its difficult to move "too much" water for a reef, however, I've noticing some of my SPS le my tank, zenias for example, really look like they are blowing back and forth too hard...I bough a new shroom rock last week and some of the muchrooms have been blowing off. My bubble coral has also been having trouble staying fully inflated, and I read somewhere on the forums that too much flow can/will impact the corals ability to thrive.

Anyway--I moved things around this morning and already the bubble seems to be much more filled out.

Any thoughts based on past experience would be great!
