Actually though I am a fan of using dead space to make you concentrate on the point of interest. I think the Orange shoulder picture does that best of these 3. The Anthias I am not as happy with but I posted it because I really liked how the color turned out. They are hard fish to photograph. My Tangs seem to pose for me.

RE: A couple fish pics

yes, fish shots are tough!

The main thing about the composition is the fact that the eye/heads of the fishes are all roughly in the centre of the shot. This results in quite a bit of 'dead space' on one side of the image... it doesn't look balanced to me particualrly with the tails chopped off. Going on the 'rule of thirds' it can be more aesthetically pleasing to place the eye/head of the fish (the 'focus' of the image) off centre. Having said that there's obviously room for experimentation! I think these shots would look even better if they were cropped slightly to remove the dead space.

Hope I am not coming across as being over critical..... these are nice shots!

RE: A couple fish pics

I know all 3 are pretty similar. But when it comes to fish sometimes you have to take what they give you. I like the Wrasse the best.

RE: A couple fish pics

shots are reasonably sharp but I'm not sure I'm keen on the composition.

RE: A couple fish pics

You have a good eye for artistic composition too... I am sure it will get even better in time. You have good awareness or posture, background, etc (versus a strict full frame/full flank technical shot, for example)

kindly, Anth-

RE: A couple fish pics

Thanks to you both.
