Avila- anybody heard of this guy?

Not pointing fingers or anything like that but www.aquahobby.com looked like an ok fish hobby website at first until I got loads of spams. Since then I had to close my email account. I simply do not appreciate weirdo-stuff emails and brazilian pornos.

Then when I browsed their website further, I discovered that they used some celebrities like Sean Connery and Gloria Estefan photos hinting some personal connection to Marcos A Avila website. I managed to get a reply from Ms Estefan management who said that they have no knowledge of Marcos A Avila website!

I just think it is better to keep our fish hobby honest and clean especially when there are so many kids involved in the hobby.

Cheers

Happy Birthday Chuck

A Supplemental for my Comrades

Government run Health "Care" - A testimonial

So you are all for the government running or being part of your health care needs? If you have ever dealt with Medicare/Medicaid or the military retired benefit of Tricare, which is now emulating Medicare per its allowances and administration, then I don't need to say more, but for those of you who have not had such dealings, be warned.

During December of 2008 I suffered a heart attack while at my home in the Philippines to which I have retired to. I was then rushed to the nearest emergency room here in the Philippines with my understanding that my military health care would cover the costs and that the hospital would simply bill my insurance as is done in the U.S. Wrong assumption. I quickly found out that Tricare will not accept such claims and that I must pay all the costs up front and then submit my own claim for reinbursement. Okay, so how many of us have ten thousand dollars in cash laying around for such a purpose? Needless to say, I had to scramble to come up with such funds, all within the 30 days the hospital gave me before they imposed a 25% fee. Thankfully I was lucky enough to have enough family and friends to help me meet that deadline, had I not, I would still by trying to pay it in full and would of course miss the one year deadline to file a claim for reimbursement, a nice catch-22 for ya.

Okay, so a month after release from the hospital, I submit my claim and all of its required documentation, sent via FedEx as regular postal mail takes at least six weeks on a one way trip. For the next two months I checked the status of both my claims online, as I had to seperate in-hospital medications onto a seperate claim. During those two months, the claims showed a status of "in process". Shortely afterwards, I get a call from the hospital asking me what I want them to do with a letter from Tricare asking for my medical records, keep in mind that the hospital is fully paid and has no reason to be involved or get involved with my claim. I fetched the letter from them, gathered up the medical records and FedExed it all back to Tricare. I wait another few weeks noting that the claim status has yet to change, so I called them (long distance on my phone bill) only to find out that they had sent another letter to me asking for more records. So I wait another six weeks and recieve the letter, which stated "we are waiting for records from the hospital", with no mention of what exact records they require, as they have my claims now under "medical review". I gather up any and all records available to me and send them off via FedEx once again. During the four day transit of those records, my claims were suddenely listed as "denied". I of course called to find out what happened only to be told that my time to file the claim had expired, since you are given one full year to file the claim, not to include the time it takes to process the claims, but to first file it, I was at a loss since I had filed it within one month of my release from the hospital. A half hour of going back and forth with "customer service" it finaly dawned on them that they had their years mixed up? So two new claim numbers were issued and I thought that would be the end of it. I then get another letter asking for more records, nothing specific again, just a form letter with every possible catagory checked as being needed, including therapy records, which made no sense since I never had therapy nor claimed any costs for therapy. Just goes to show you how no one was taking any time to actualy review the claim. So once again, I gather any and all records from the hospital, which took a great effort as I had to have a clerk spend her time chasing down every possible record once again and have them time and date stamped as verification of their being true copies. So off to FedEx once again. Four days later, they are recieved by Tricare per FedEx tracking. That same day they recieved the records I check my claim status and they are both pegged as "Paid". Wow! That was really fast service! Well, when I noted that my claim for 3 thousands dollars worth of medications was paid out to me in the amount of 2 hundred dollars, I was extremely shocked and called once again only to be told that no one had yet looked at recently recieved records (that they requested). So why would you request records and keep the claims on hold only to recieve the records, not look at them, and then make a decision? I was assured they would review the claims again and make any adjustments, but they could not explain to me the vast difference in the amounts claimed and paid other than to tell me that maybe the hospital simply over charged me and that I should go to the hospital and ask for a refund? How do you refund something that was consumed as well as ordered by a doctor as well as accuse the hospital of such a thing. A futher explanation was that my military health care now falls under the same guide lines as medicaid as well as the fact that I have to co-pay 25% of everything now. To date, I am still waiting for the promised letter explaining the dollar differences in my claim. Which I then will have to submit a request for a further review. Some how I am not taking much comfort in there being any resolution to this, leaving my wife and I to repay personal loans for health care that was supposed to be due me.

And that folks is your government run health care in nutshell. Enjoy yours when the time comes!

Chuck

My Fellow Comrades

By creating a forum post, it is obvious that I am extremely worried and shocked at the direction the current administration and its congress wants to take our country. I am also disappointed in myself for not having researched and learned of Obama's history and thinking behind his "change", as well as those running against him for not bringing this to light during the campaign. Do a google search using the terms "obama and socialism" as well as look back at speeches made by Obama and his now chief of staff, Obama states that he is a Marxist !! Even in his book he idolizes his father's marxist ideals. That and his idea of creating a civilian "group" that equals the power and funding of the U.S. military in which all young peaple must serve a number of years in is also greatly disturbing. Lets see, a group of peaple living in your neighborhood working as part of a "social" team that answers to the white house, hmmm, what would be a good term to use? Maybe.... party members? Time for a cultural revolution? Where and when have we heard all of that before?

His speech about changing the Constitution is equaly as scary. His view is that the constitution only deals with what the states and the Feds can NOT do to you but should also include what the states and the Feds CAN do to you, (his words were "for you"), but come on peaple, we know that once a government does something "for you", they then own you. Might I remind those of military and government service that most of us, including the President took an oath to defend our constitution from all enemys, both foreign and domestic.

Has our nation become so out of touch with the realities of the world or so lazy as to wish someone else would do everything for us, to take care of us, to remove the risk of failure which by the way also removes the chance and hope for success. A free ride that removes our rights to freedom. Makes sense to me....NOT!

Seriously, is this the "change" most of you had in mind? If so, I can only weep at the loss of so many countless lives given up in the defense of what is at risk, yet again, except this time, we are doing it to ourselves.

I try to tell myself that I put my own butt on the line for 20 years in order to keep the freedom of choices and the ability to vote, yet I find little comfort in it now as it all seems such a waste, or could be. I only hope that America will wake up and take charge once again before too much damage is done and the worst of it will simply be that we spend the next few decades undoing the damage causing nothing more than a lot of wasted time and money. Just seems ironic that communists nations are moving towards free market systems while the best free market in the world is moving towards communism. What is even more amazing is that we have numerous examples of socialist and communist nations and yet the administration and some members of congress seem to believe that doing so is still a good idea? Am I missing something here or what? Governments are the WORST thing to happen to any nation, well, besides dictators and yet we want more of it? AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Chuck

Happy 4th of July

Happy 4th of July to all. For awhile there with all the talk about global warming and doing something about it, I briefly thought there was hope afterall, but... alas, even if "we" actualy stopped the CO2 levels right where they are now, it wouldn't matter in the long run. With our populations now at plague proportions, how long will we be able to continue as a species with no end in sight to our explosive population levels? Instead of facing the fact that we have put locusts to shame and doing something about that, we instead try to find ways to fuel even more expansion.

The sky is actualy falling, with a lot of talk and hope for alternatives while we bicker about getting more oil out of the ground so we can go back to 1 dollar a gallon for gas, which is never going to happen anyways. Then you have republicans taking advantage of it all proposing the lifting of a ban. What ban? The democrats raised a very good question, and I usually never side with democrats or any party for that matter but common sense is common sense. Why aren't the oil companies drilling on the gazillion acres they have already leased? The oils there, they know it, but they want more leases? I have a feeling (conspiracy theory) that the U.S. is holding out knowing that the middle east will be oil dry in a matter of years now and then the U.S. will become the new middle east, able to sell 200 dollar barrels of oil to china, which is really cool if true, because then we can use those trillions of dollars to look for oil alternatives and save the planet while we continue to breed like rabbits. Makes perfect sense to me. Oh, almost forgot.... I would propose that we at least post US/state, Canada/province, and other's /country. I don't feel that this would invade on anyones privacy or decrease their anonymity since their forum name and avitar will remain the same. I find it hard to narrow down location using the time reference and I think since we all share the same common interest in the hobby it would be nice to know what part of the world the person you are responding to is located. I feel that sometimes knowing the location better enables you to communicate your own ideas and be of assistance. I would like to hear your feedback be it positive or negative. If enough decide it is a good idea it could be made a required field in the application. Thanks, Thanks, Thanks to all.

b

Broken Tunze CO2 regulator

Hi all i have been trying to reach Mr. Jose Fontao at his extension for over 2 weeks now leaving him messages with no reply and also i tried reachin Mr. Walter Floresguerra at his extension to no avail about 2 weeks ago i ordered the following item # TZ1111 and it came with one of the pressure gauges broken and i have been trying to reach the above two persons but no luck as i dont speak very well english and they are the two spanish speaking representatives that i know that work at MD but they wont respond to my messages at least Mr. Jose doesnt reply back to my messages im a customer who buys thousands of dollars worth of merchandise every year i think i deserve some type of good service but i usually bought my stuff online but since MD changed the website im forced to call in my orders due to the shipping since i live outside of the CONUS the system wont let me order the items i need thru the web site but since i havent got a hold on either of the two persons above i 've been forced to order all of my items at a different site since their website lets me order the items without calling in my order i wish that this could be resolved ASAP as i think i wont be ordering any other stuff from them anymore Oh i forgot to mention that i have been ordering from MD for years now but sadly i must find somewhere else i just want to resolve the CO2 regulator problem.

Thanks
Nestor Velez

calibration fluid

has anyone heard of recycling the calibration, using it more than 1 time.

Looking for Summer Camp Nurse

Just thought I'd throw this link up for anyone looking for an LPN/RN summer camp nurse position for this summer. She is still undergoing treatments and will for the foreseeable future. There is hope however. The doctors at Childrens hospital continue to work with her.

My wife was diagnosed with Cancer in May of this year. Thankfully in late September she was officially in remission!!

However, a week after that we had a housefire and are working on recovering from that. Pretty much a total loss of most all possesions in the fire. Having tried to FedEx a few live marine animals (synaptids) to the U.S. recently, I ran into a brick wall with all of the express delivery companys. I can easily get the export permits from the Philippines Customs/Fish & Game, but the delivery services have a thing against "perishables" and salt water. Having called FedEx's live animal desk in the U.S., I guess there is a little known (here) clause of being able to obtain a shipping waiver for such things if it is from a business to a business.

I am toying with the idea of getting an export and business license in order to get a few things moving to the states. Being that it would be somewhat of a rare event for me to actualy make a shipment, and being live animals, I would have to have a 2 or 3 day delivery company involved. My biggest concern is what road blocks or regulations would I run into with the U.S. Customs / Fish & Game departments? Would such animals have to be held in quarantine? Is there some sort of permit or license required from the state side of it?

I'm not attempting to do such a thing for any kind of a profit or actual business, but it drives me crazy that I can get a good many species of marine organisms that would be of benefit to our systems for those of us who have a disdain for "plugged in" aquariums and would rather have diversity of life fill the rolls of more mechanical methods. The above mentioned sand dwelling synaptids and sea cucumbers are a great example.

Chuck

Panel Members?

Anyone interested in participating in a roundtable on my podcast? Over the history our planet has had fluxuations in its temperature and I believe it just part of the cycle our planet goes through. Do you remember the big buzz on the hole in our ozone? god forbid we use hairspray anymore, now its rarley mentioned because it filled back in and scientist proved that it was just part of the cycle. I do agree that we should be mindful of what we are pumping into the air we breathe and coming up with better ways to be more in harmony with our planet. The latest buzz words like "green" and "carbon nuetral" are great marketing stratagies. Take Al Gores movie (i am a republican to clarify) he has made millions off this and now corporations are tagging thing green and profiting all the way to the bank. Over the weekend they held all those concerts to save our planet all the while the entertainers logged 250,000+ air miles not to mention all the cars that were driven to these events, do you really think we can plant enought trees to make those events carbon nuetral? It hypocritical. I am sceptical of anything being so overly promoted where money is being made. In my opinion the whole global warming thing is a feel good cause that is now making many people wealthy.

Podcast Episode 8 - MACNA special

Podcast with MACNA interviews is now online.
