You will have a lower wattage (less heat produced and less on your electric bill) while putting out a higher PAR. CurrentUSA makes some nice retrofit kits that are fairly inexpensive that come with bulbs.

HTH,

P.C. How close for spacing?

Inside dimensions on my Hood are 48" x 20", currently have four 96 watt lamps, want to add two more 96 watts. How close can I space them? My reflector is one big piece. Also has anyone used the M.D. DIY Square pin Sockets? Have you had any problems with them? Cooling fans are no problem as I have a stack of them from computer racks.
