Thanks for the kind words, salt-rookie. I will be shipping the first issue of volume 2 very shortly, but delivery might be slow for some folks (as it was last year around this time through Valentine's day). Magazines shipped via media rate USPS postage (the cheapest/only option) are at the mercy of priority mail. What usually takes less than 2 weeks to deliver can take a full month (on rare occasions a tad longer! Hence the old mag delivery mantra "4-6 weeks for delivery" I always wondered what took so long as a subscriber for a publisher to fill an order! Now I know... its media mail delivery )

Rocky... please help us keeping the threads and archives tidy... post all new (off-topic) queries in a new thread of their own.

About a month ago I bought some live rock from a LFS(Elmer's Aquarium & Pet Center, in Monroeville, pa). I have this thing which nobody can identifie. They gave me Anthony Calfo's name and said that you might be able to identifie it. It does not move except the moth opens and closes. I hope you can tell from the pic that I have enclosed. Mr. Calfo,

I see that you are putting out another edition of your book of coral propagation. I am a dedicated reef keeper as well as an amature propagator (by comparison to you) most of what i know of propagation I learned the hard way, as I live in Maine and there are very few knowledgeable people in my local area. I have do a ton of online research as well as reading anything I can get my hands on. Recently a friend of mine, a local fish store owner that I sell most of my frags to, gave me a book. it was "book of coral propagation, Volume one, Version 1.0". I dont think he realized when he gave it to me this version of the book in slightly used form is rather expensive (this version of your book is going for almost 200$ on amazon.com) I found this out on accident. I cant in good conscience keep the book knowing this but, I was wondering if I could send you the book to have it autographed, so I can return it to him, better than it was when he gave it to me, as way of saying thanks to him for giving me this now collectable treasure. I have definitely learned a few applications that one guy with a couple tanks may take years of trial and error to figure out. As well as ideas on what direction to go when it comes time to set up a far more serious mariculture project. I will, of course, pay postage both ways.

as a side note, when I read your opinions on waterchanges and supplementation I laughed my butt off, I thought I was the only waterchange nut in the world. I do on average about 1 to 2, 20 to 30% water changes a week and a 50% waterchange once a month (I feed 5-7 times a day [various foods], less water changes would be very bad for my water quality) as you can imagine I go through just a little bit of salt. I love your writing style and shall be looking into purchasing the newest version of your book.

I am eager to see BOCP1ed2 in Greece too... but I am most eager to produce the Greece-Mediterranean issue of the magazine After MACNA (one week) I will be harassing my Greek friends for article submissions. Ahem... It would be really great if I knew someone in the travel industry in Greece that could pen a hobbyist perspective of great dive sites in the Greek Isles :p Hmmm... ?

I received #4 a couple days ago (the service for international subscriptions is perfect!) and it is the best issue ever! This was true for each one (was better than the previous) and this shows the commitment of Anthony and Christine to continuously improve the Journal! I subscribed from volume 2 even before receiving number 4 and can't wait for the next!!

Although it is not a magazine that you read in a matter of days from what I read the Wunderpus is amazing!!

Now we are waiting for BOCP volume#2

the email address in the magazine or my website (readingtrees.com) work fine, my friend. I only disabled the message board PMs/EMs because they get abused almost without exception by folks that want personal service and are not interested like we are in sharing with all members of the community (via public posts/archiving). I regret that I have to do it... but its all I can do to keep up with the non-board email requests for help as it is.

Please understand that youve asked me a question... but I do not remember your real name based on a username (Labman). I meet a lot of people I cant reference you without knowing who you are.

you got me again Anthony! I have to say I was honestly debating ordering this time around just a little hesident not much but this Volume was so amazing and I have seen a steady improvement in the quality of your mag. this one really did blow me away. going steadily more and more sps well the article on Acropora fantastic. and yes the wunderpus well I want one but no worries I am not getting or trying to get one I will just wish that I had one. and drool over the photo's I wish I was going to Macna this year but I can't next year though I have to make it. But Anthony I do have one little problem well not really a problem on my end. the last two issues I received two copies the 1st time I thought it was a fluke but the second time well I am not complaining trust me but I know how much these cost to produce and well it's just not right I hope you don't mine I have giving them to friends trying to hook them one did order your book and I think once he see's issue 4 we got him. but double check things so I get what I pay for well work every penny I might add.

exactly so my friend... the MACNA section was given that back in reverse format to make it easier for readers (and attendees! - we are the official program guide) to flip between the regular content and the event info.

Previous shows/attendees have complained that past mags have buried the MACNA content in the body text and flooded it with ads too. In such cases it is too difficult to find the program schedule (that gets referred to repeatedly at the show all weekend long for speakers, events, etc) in an imbedded format.

Hence our reverse format

its not the case anymore, mate. A couple months ago the USPS overhauled rates and eliminated the bulk media discount categories (among others). Its absolutely crippling to those of us shipping books, mags and sheet music. No more "M-bags" by surface (they were the $1/lb rates).

Nonetheless, we can still look into some kind of consolidated freight carrier. The prices will be competitive per pound, but the minimum quantities to get those prices will be steeper. We will certainly need someone in each country to field and redistribute the books and mags. Oi!

the short story is that most countries in the world can have the mags shipped for the same price as the US subscription or nearly so if you are willing to take a slower delivery (2 months in stead of 2 weeks, roughly). There are many options at the USPS.com site for us... the range is roughly from $1 - 6 per mag for slowest to fastest service, respectively. We can make a bulk mailing for multiple SA aquarists too if you/we can all coordinate it... that will bring the postage price per down indeed.

I don't know if it will become a problem, but this is the only place I can find out. Last week I attempted to e-mail reading trees to find out but my e-mail failed after four days. With my third issue of C... the Journal I received a notice my subscription needed renewed. I do not know if this was a mistake or a general insert sent to everyone, but when I subscriped to the first quarter I also went ahead and did an early bird purchase for the second quarter and pre-ordered your new book. That was three separate paypal transactions. As I cannot e-mail info@readingtrees.com to find out, what can I do now?

Got mine this week and it is fantastic.

I enjoyed seeing/hearing of tanks from overseas, loved the jelly expose... I'm trying to hide that from my wife as she has been bugging me to set a jelly tank up.

Wow--the overseas ones went out not long ago. I'm so glad everyone seems to be getting their third edition so much faster than the second one. So kudos to the post office for the rapid delivery: at least the incredible rate increase we are having to fund is worth something .

Just got Volume # and skimmed. All I can say is that Anthony keeps outdoing himself. So far his time in Spain/Portugal, and the small tidbits of info about their aquaculture have really caught my eye. Anthony, I will be taking advantage of the "Early Bird Special".

OK... I am very quietly posting that the new mag issue (3rd quarter volume 1) is back from the printer... hours old and the ink still smells They will be mailed tomorrow and shown at IMAC this weekend too.

Subscribers get their issues mailed first, of course (albeit by lumbering USPS media mail rates that just increased by 25%!)... dealers will get theirs as soon as they confirm or send their POs (most mailing next week for dealers). Let the trickle down begin

I hope y'all enjoy this one... it's my favorite of the three issues so far FWIW (content-wise). I'll post a TOC and samples next week when I get back from IMAC.

kind regards to all... and super thanks for the support of friends/subscribers to date! I hope you find the publications worthy of your continued support. Grassroots (self-pub) works like ours dearly need it.
