Have been every time I have checked, tank is 8 years old, I check every 2 weeks or so. I think the problem was circulation, oxygen levels, when the pump was only working 1/2 way, if even that, I had lots of powerheads moving water, but not really breaking the surface. The pump was only turning over a small amount of the tank per hour.

Thanks, I will give that a try.

RE: Clown has fin rot need medicine info

Welcome to the MarineDepot.com forums!

cr8signs (5/14/2008)
My clown that I have had since Sept of 07 has developed fin rot, due to a malfunction in my main pump, my tank became a nasty place for him to live. By the time I discovered the real problem to my tank issues, my maroon was showing signs of a whitish film on his fins, and cloudy eyes. He showed these signs for about a week in a half, the pump has now been fixed for 3 days, and I am doing 25-30% water changes, but his fins have now started to fray. He is eating and acting normal. He is in a main display tank that holds corals, shrimps, snails, crabs, anemones, etc.

What are the water parameters? The problems could be twofold - burns from ammonia spikes and bacterial infection.

They are getting worse by the minute. I have on hand Furan 2. Would like to know if I should use this, if clowns are sensitive to this, should I do a bath with it or QT him and put it in a tank like the directions say for 2-4 weeks. Is it possible to overdose this medicine?

I would move the clown to a bare bottom QT with a cycled filter. I would perform daily one hour baths with the Furan 2. The dose I use for baths: dose 1 gallon container. Dose per instruction for a 10 gallon volume. For example, if the directions state 'one capsule per 10 gallons', I add 1 capsule per 1 gallon. Well aerate the bath. Bath for one hour daily for at least 7 - 10 days.

Will this hurt the biological filter, will it hurt the live rock , will it hurt crabs, snails or corals?

Do not dose the display tank. Porous materials can absorb the medication and it will affect microfauna and biological filtration. It can hurt inverts and corals.

Thanks for your help, I have never had to use medicine and this is very touchy area for me. I do not want to do more harm then good.

Make sure to wear gloves and not get the furan 2 on you - it will stain.

Clown has fin rot need medicine info

My clown that I have had since Sept of 07 has developed fin rot, due to a malfunction in my main pump, my tank became a nasty place for him to live.
