Connecticut Area Reef Society Presents

The Connecticut Area Reef Society will be holding their next regularly scheduled meeting on Sunday, October 21, 2007.

It will be at Science and Technology Magnet High School of Southeastern Connecticut, 490 Jefferson Ave. , New London, CT 06320. The doors will open at 2 with the lecture beginning at 3 PM.

Admission is free with your 2007 or 2008 CTARS membership card. Guests are $5.00.

This month will feature "Keeping Acro’s" by Joe Burger. Joe is a long time aquarist and the September 2002 “Tank of the Month” winner in “Reefkeeping” Magazine.

It will be followed by our regular raflle and big item raffle. This month big raffle item is a Hanna Phosphate Low Range Meter (with reagents). Tickets are only $5.

Also available will be CTARS gear available – Shirts & Coolers. Justin will have frags and full adult Berghia available.

Denver Area Reef Club (DARC) Frag Swap

Frag Swap - March 24th (March 31st will be an alternate if there is bad weather) at The Grim Reefer's house:

D.A.R.C. is proud to announce that their Frag & Equipment swap will take place on March 24th at The Grim Reefers' House. All Colorado Reefers are welcome to bring their frags and equipment for sale or trade. There will also be a raffle table with plenty of items available.

How it works: 100% of the proceeds from the swap will benefit the sellers. People who do not have items to sell are more than welcome to come. There will be no cover charge. There will be a donation table where sellers may donate frags to the club to help raise money and there will be a donation jar also meant to help raise funds. However, sellers may use their own judgement as what to donate.

Sellers are asked to please RSVP as to what they will bring, and if you could also bring a card table and chair (they might not be needed, but just in case). Parking will be aplenty and refreshment will be available. Join DARC for the fun on Saturday March 24th at 2:00pm.

SCMAS Information Worshop and Barbeque
Saturday, July 8, 2006 12:00 noon - 5:00 pm (or possible later)

It is a VERY informal "get-together" and requires no reservation, sign-up, or anything of that nature. It is simply a chance to meet local hobbiests, eat, learn a few things about the club, eat, learn how to build a few things, and....oh, and did I mentions eat? You do not have to be a member to attend.
refreshments will be provided but beer will a BYOB thing
(the host likes Sam Adams, but don't tell anyone...shhhhh!)

The subjects "tentatively" covered that day will be:
1) Water Barrel Mixing System (we will actually build a few, so if you have a 55-gallon barrel, bring it along.)
2) Acrylic Scratch Removal Procedures (presented by Steve Carroll)
3) Auto Topoff Systems (Reservoir vs Solenoid)
4) Plumbing basics and tricks (using "non-standard" parts)
5) Home-made Calcium Reactor (presented by Marc Trimble)
6) Reefmeister Power station (if time permits)

Though this is not officially a frag swap, you are more than welcome to bring corals frags, etc. to sell and/or trade that day. There are plenty of electrical outlets available and I will have extra saltwater handy.

As mentioned earlier, burgers, hotdogs, chips, sodas, etc. will be provided, so come hungry and ready chow down.

Reef-A-Palooza: Southern California - Featuring Anthony Calfo

Save the date!

SCMAS, the Southern California Marine Aquarium Society, presents Reef-A-Palooza III on August 19, 2006. This is a public and free event to be held in Orange County, CA. We expect approximately 500 attendees this year. Plans are in progress. More information will be posted here as it becomes available.

We'll have many vendors, frag farmers, and hobbyists from all over Southern California and the western US with frags and equipment. As always, we'll have a huge raffle of prizes large and small that is sure to leave dozens of winners with smiles of satisfaction on their faces. Past prizes have been aquacultured livestock, lighting systems, top of the line skimmers and even entire aquariums.

We'll also have a presentation by the always-entertaining Anthony Calfo.

If you would like to reserve display space at Reef-A-Palooza, would like to donate something to the raffle, or have questions about the event, please send an email to Reef-A-Palooza--Reservations@SCMAS.org with your name and phone number.

Topic: Fishes and Corals (or something about one or the other of them).
Bob is one of the top authors and educators in aquaria. No matter what Bob speaks on, it is always entertaining and enlightening. You won't want to miss his presentation.

Bob is extensively published and very knowledgeable of all aspects of the hobby industry, especially overseas collections and trade of rare and beautiful fish and corals. His stunning pictures and slides is surpassed only by his rapier wit and comedic commentary!

beginnings to final product, how to build, maintain and
