I have the non-controllable version, but from my understanding when you have 2 or more pumps (all must have the wave driver) hooked up you set up one of them as the main control pump and the rest are slave pumps (they will be controlled by the main controlled pump).

So as long as all of the vortechs you have have the MP40W driver they can be controlled by the one master and the rest will be slaves.

This is from ecotech's website:

Every MP40W model VorTech pump is wave controllable right out of the box! With our new Wireless Wave Driver, the VorTech pump can act autonomously to create waves in your aquarium, or can be synched with other pumps in the tank to create random and pulsing movements. When any one pump is entered into feed mode, the pump will signal all other VorTech pumps to shut down, eliminating the time required for you to turn off each pump individually. No other pump on the market can even compare to the intelligence of the VorTech pump.

You may want to contact them to see if there is a maximum number of pumps that it can control:  http://www.ecotechmarine.com/contactform.htm

I looked and I don't see the slave pumps offered. Trying to run pumps, with wave maker in two aquariums side-by-side, with the most bang for the buck.

There is no actual difference between a slave and the master, they are the same.  It is just one pump (the driver) is set up to be the main one and all the others are run off of its settings.

Are your pumps both hooked up with the wireless wave drivers or do you have the "older" style that is doesn't have the wave driver?

Does your driver look like this (http://www.ecotechmarine.com/products/mp20-mp40w.htm)?
