I have a 55G tall acrylic aquarium with an overflow and a refigium in the stand under the aquarium. The water flowing into the opening at the bottom of the overflow makes a loud gurgling sound that is very annoying. Currently, I have placed a large block of foam in the overflow to stop the sound, but it frequently gets clogged and has to be cleaned.
Is there a better way to stop the sound from the overflow without creating a problem with water getting 'blocked' ?

| If you do a google search for Durso Standpipe or Stockman Standpipe you will get a couple of plans for building overflows drains that are much quieter. Either one of these designs should help quiet down your overflow. HTH,
