So my mom got me a small turtle today but i dont know whta type it is or how to care for it!

It looks like a red ear slider. It should have clean water and a place to climb out of the water when it wants. I think they eat feeder guppies but someone eles may know more. Robyn's pond pages have a section on turtles you might try asking questions there.

Yes that is a red ear slider.  Unless things have changed (or are different in different states) it is illegal to sell them under 4" in shell size, but many places still seem to offer them.

They will require an area where they can be fully submerged and swim around and also a dry area that they can bask under a heat lamp.  They will require a full spectrum day light bulb also.  It will also get quite big (8-12 inches or bigger) and will require a large aquarium.  If you are in a warmer climate you can keep them in an outdoor pond provided they can get out of the pond for basking.
